"Quatre cyclistes britanniques ont donc été enrôlés pour porter les couleurs de notre club."Jean-Paul Delaunay, the president of COC Fougeres, had been struggling to find premier category riders this off season, hence the idea was to place an article on internet cycling websites regarding the teams search. Une riche expérienceSi pour deux d'entre eux les pelotons français ne leur sont pas étrangers, pour les deux autres c'est une grande première que de venir courir en France. For two of them the French peletons are not "foreign", though for the other two it is their first grand experience of racing in France. THE TOUR SERIES IS LAUNCHED
The Tour of Britain won’t be the only home-grown top level cycling event appearing on UK TV sets this year, following the launch of the The Tour Series this week. According to organisers, The Tour Series - a 10 round town and city centre cycling series - is a revolutionary new concept in cycle racing which brings unique and exciting team racing to the streets of the UK. Unlike any other UK cycling series The Tour Series is not based on individual athletic performance, but instead on team performance. Starting on the 21st May, in Milton Keynes, 10 teams of five professional cyclists will compete to become the overall champions of The Tour Series. Each night the teams will aim to place their top three riders in the highest positions at the end of one hour racing around a 1-1.5km city centre circuit - delivering all of the thrills and spills of this high-speed sport. Starting at 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, The Tour Series promises to create a festival of cycling-based activities and races that will generate a carnival atmosphere at each of the chosen venues. Each round will be televised via a major Terrestrial broadcaster. Speaking about The Tour Series, Event Organiser on behalf of SweetSpot, Mick Bennett said; ‘I’m very happy to see a return to professionally structured, dynamic town and city centre racing, bringing a vibrant and lively atmosphere to towns and cities across the UK this summer. The team responsible for putting the Tour Series together has worked extremely hard to make this a reality. I am proud of what has been achieved and now can’t wait for the events to start.’ Nine towns and cities are already confirmed to host a Tour Series event - Milton Keynes, Exeter, Woking, Peterborough, Blackpool, Southport, Stoke-on-Trent and Chester with the finals of the series being staged at Southend. The final venue completing the line-up is to be announced very soon. Tour Series Director of Racing, and two times British Champion Brian Smith comments; ‘British cycling’s success at the Olympics, coupled with the rise in profile of the Premier Calendar and The Tour Of Britain, has meant there are a greater number of cycling teams forming and those already in existence have become stronger. The Tour Series teams have been selected from the best of these professional teams in the UK and this sets the scene for a showdown of British cycling talent. The fast and furious racing will bring the ‘razzamataz’ of cycling to our city centres whilst the professional performance of our partner teams will engage with the British public to take The Tour Series to the next level.’ Further info on The Tour Series can be found at http://www.tourseries.co.uk or you can follow The Tour Series on Facebook, aswell as Twitter on http://twitter.com/TourSeriesNews story courtesy of Pez Cycling News - http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/26.03.2009
CYCLINGBARGAINS.COM - INFINIS - METALTEK IN EARLY SEASON ACTION
 - Jennings & Fox take 3rd & 7th at Darley Moor Nat. B - Burbridge completes first open road race - Orr races in France - Team prepare for Bikeline 2-day Premier Calendar The Midlands based cycle racing team cyclingbargains.com – Infinis – Metaltek, following their team launch at Champneys Springs Health Resort, opened the second week of the race calendar with a string of results this weekend. Saturday’s highest placed honours went to Matt "MJ" Jennings from Leicester, riding his first race for the team. Jennings came 3rd behind race winner George Atkins in the opening round of the Darley Moor Circuit Race Series. Jennings, who led out the sprint from the 6 man break away said, “I felt good throughout the race and was confident of a good place. My High5 Energy Source 4:1 really helped me, especially with the race getting faster as it went on! I am spending next week training in The Peak District, and it's nice to be going off to train more with a podium finish already behind me” Fellow team mate Will Fox, from Loughborough rode the same event and brought the bunch home, sprinting for 7th place. Fox has already secured an 8th, two 4th and 3rd place finishes so far this year. Fox said, “My current results are good and with the team around me more as the season progress', I'm sure that I'll gain the results that fit in line with my objectives.” The teams Elite rider Rob Orr competed in the L’Etoile de Tressignaux Premier Category Race in France on Saturday. Orr was satisfied to finish comfortably in the main bunch after over 90 miles of racing despite missing his bottles in the earlier feed. The race was won by 2008 World junior Champion Johan Lebon. Orr said, “I thought I was going to cramp up badly towards the end of the race having missed my bottles, but once we were on to the circuit I finally got another bottle and more or less got away with it. The race was my first of the season, and having not raced last year was un-sure as to how I would go, but it went ok and was pleased with the High5 products from the team. I certainly noticed a boost from the energy gels, and that I didn't cramp I'm sure was down to the Energy Source drink that they are supplying the team with, so overall a good test in more ways than one, and I'm quite happy with the outcome.” To hear more on Rob's racing, see his diary section at www.roborr.co.uk Middle markers proved the better of the scratch group in the opening round of the Northants Cycle Race Association race at Middleton. www.cyclingbargains.com – Infinis – Metaltek team-mates Michael Cowland, former Junior National Medalist Carl Dyson and current Junior rider Bradley Burbridge finish in the main bunch with a break of over 20 riders having stayed away. The race was sixteen year old Burbridge's first open road race, and showed certain promise for the future. The following day saw Rob Orr in action again in front of an estimated 9,000 spectators in the French Elite race "Manche Atlantique", finishing on a circuit at Plumelec where Alessandro Valverde won a stage in the 2008 Tour de France. The race was won by Fabrice Jeandezbos of the continental professional team Besson Chaussures- Sojasun. Team Manager Rod Freeman said, "This has been a good weekend for us with the team visible in four races. All the hard work throughout the winter is now starting to take shape, though we still have a long way to go still as it's only March. The races have been a good testing ground for us with regards to the new team products, and it was fantastic to see the team kitted out in their new LAS Istrion helmets and on the Kinesis Racelight bikes. Having spoken to the riders after their races I have had some very positive feedback with regards to the products, which will please our equipment sponsors." Orr, Dyson and Fox join fellow team mate Matt Fostun (replacing Raph Deinhart - virus) this coming weekend for the opening round of the British Cycling Premier Calendar Series, the Bikeline 2 day. The 200km three stage, two day road race in North Wales sees the team compete as part of a field of 120 of the UK’s top riders. Meanwhile, Cowland, Burbridge, Andy Swain and David Palmer will continue their early season build-up as they compete at Old, Northamptonshire, in the 2nd round of the NCRA Series. 13.03.2009
